Brand View: Fadi Amoudi, CEO of IQ Fulfillment, talks about opening the region’s first robotic fulfillment centre, working with new technological innovations and what really inspires him

What inspires you?
As an entrepreneur, I am fascinated with the idea of using technology to ease lives and help businesses grow to their full potential. We live in a world where nothing is untouched by technology, and the endless potential of tech-innovations, like robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, are what I want to help businesses leverage for their betterment and advancement.

Other inspiring and encouraging factors are the UAE and Dubai. With a strong digital infrastructure and the focus of the leadership to drive digital transformation through forward-looking technology and innovation, the country keeps us motivated to do more. As the city prepares for Expo 2020, we see the opening of IQ Fulfillment as meeting a need in the market to support SMEs and other enterprises to build their digital enterprises in the most cost-effective manner. The overall positive outlook is very inspiring for companies like us trying to make an impact on the overall business landscape.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
Apart from a keen interest in technology and expertise in robotics, I am interested in building brands by supporting SMEs. They are the future of the global business landscape, and by contributing to their success, I am in a way contributing to creating a brighter and more sustainable future for generations to come. I am also an ardent art fan and collector.

Quote to live your life by?
‘Be the future.’ This is also the tagline for IQ Robotics. I believe that to change the future, one has to be the future. That is the only way to create long-term values and ethics.
Finish this sentence: The world would be a better place, if only….
We were to embrace positive change. With disruptions all around, the exceptional pace of changing digital spaces is imperative for businesses to be open to these changes and welcome anything that is helpful or can have a positive impact on them.

What’s the story behind your business?
The catalyst for the idea behind IQ Fulfillment made itself apparent to me before moving to Dubai with my family. Coming from a FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) background, I decided to set up an online grocery delivery service, and, after some research, I realised that the main problem in the e-commerce platforms in the UAE was the logistics, something all e-commerce SMEs in the region struggled with. This is where it all began. This put me in contact with Quicktron, the leading Chinese intelligent robotics company that supplies warehouse AGV robots for e-commerce giant Alibaba. We signed a deal with them soon afterwards to be their representative in the Middle East and Africa, leading to the creation of IQ Robotics, a technology company that provides the robots for the IQ Fulfillment warehouse in Dubai and beyond. Some of our other strategic partners across the MENA region include Honeywell Logistics, Damon Technologies, Locked Air, Cotao and Cubilink.

How did your business start the year?
This year, our business started on a positive note as a lot of businesses expressed a keen interest in our services. I believe we are in the right place at the right time. With a supportive leadership, Dubai is a hub of all things innovative, and hence our services are in demand. IQ Fulfillment fills a distinctive niche in the region, especially with the focus of the MENA region to build its e-commerce ecosystem. Today, the UAE is at the forefront of driving digital technologies and in supporting SMEs to achieve transformational growth, and Dubai has presented us with a strong growth environment. This puts us in a good situation, as we are addressing a market requirement that caters to the current trend of digital transformation that most businesses in the UAE are undergoing. This is where IQ Robotics comes in. It provides tailor-made technology and turnkey solutions as well as promotes the automation of all processes, bringing significant benefits to B2B customers.

If all goes well, where do you see business going in the next five years?
Globally in multiple verticals. Robotics is the future, and we aspire to be the future. Over the next five years, we are working towards establishing a global presence while creating a strong brand presence in the local and regional market as well. We are strategically working across different verticals of digital technology to enhance the business experience of our business partners.

What do you enjoy the most about working at your company?
Knowledge- and experience-sharing are the best parts of my work. Additionally, by ensuring end-to-end services, we help address logistical challenges experienced by SMEs, such as a large number of orders during seasonal peaks, which can lead to bottlenecks during that period. Addressing these gaps through our unique service is most encouraging and uplifting part of what we do.

What advice would you give to someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
The most profound recommendation would be: Build everything from the ground up. This way, you will not only create something that is unique but also build a team that would later become your family. The lessons that you will learn together will reflect the integrity of your brand, which is the most important value in the long run.
